Standards Compliance
CSS and XML make our sites accessible
CHCS is fully committed to developing “standards-compliant” websites; that is, sites created by CHCS will meet the requirements of the World Wide Web Consortium (www.w3.org), and Section 508 and U.S. Accessibility Regulations (www.section508.gov).
Part of developing a standards-compliant website is the correct implementation of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and XHTML (Extensible Hypertext Markup Language). These two standard technologies help us develop websites in which content is controlled separately from structure and layout, thus allowing creation of extremely adaptive, scalable, and robust websites These sites have some key advantages:
- Their content -- including text, navigation and graphics -- can be updated much more simply. Such updates can often be completed within hours, rather than months.
- They can be viewed on any modern browser -- including on cell phones, PDAs, and text and Braille readers used by those with disabilities -- and can be printed on any printer. This can be accomplished without creating additional pages, or resorting to complex scripting, both of which have added major cost and complexity to sites in the past.
- They will be easily updated to take advantage of emerging web and Internet technologies.
